Eric Phillips New Tenor For Mark Trammell Quartet!!

After three months of searching, praying, and auditioning. Mark Trammell Quartet is happy to announce that former Mark Trammell TRIO tenor Eric Phillips will rejoin the group at the end of the year. Eric has faithfully served the city of Gadsden, Alabama as a law enforcement officer for the last 2 years and has earned highest honors in his service to them. Eric states "When music is in your blood, its hard to get it out. I'm looking forward to getting back on the road with Mark and the guys, seeing friends I haven't seen in two and a half years and most importantly encouraging people with the gospel message thru song!" Mark states "I couldn't be happier with Eric's decision to return. He loved being a police officer and I admired him for his work. The first song we sang together when he asked to be considered again confirmed what God was trying to tell everyone in the room. All I can say is welcome home Eric, good to have you back!"

Mark continues "We would like to thank 28 men and two ladies that showed interest in filling the position. It was a very difficult decision and we are honored that you would trust this ministry that much. Also, we MUST thank our friend Jim Cox from Cumming, Ga for his excellent job of filling in at the tenor position over the last two months. Jim has been a true joy to our fans and friends across the country."

Word of Appreciation

Saw you guys for the first time on 8-26-11 at Pelahatchie Baptist. Through the years, I have seen, heard, and visited with almost all the "big time" quartets. I have never heard one better. Generally, when I attend a concert, I enjoy it and move on. This one stayed with me. The Holy Spirit settled deep in this old heart that night and is still prodding me. This was not just another concert. It was something of an awakening and has given me a new perspective. If you locate a tenor with half the talent of Joel, you will still be the premiere group of today.

As my old friend J. D. Sumner used to say, "I can't wait" until you guys are within our area again. Thank you for singing the gospel like no other.

Tenor Joel Wood To Leave The Road

In a combined announcement today, Mark Trammell Quartet tenor Joel Wood and Mark Trammell released the following statements. "It is a bittersweet day in our ministry," says Mark. "I've seen this young man grow in so many ways in the last two years. I wouldn't trade anything in the world for the privilege of investing in the lives of Joel and his sweet family. Joel is one of the finest young men I've ever traveled with.

"While he's gained in popularity as a professional singer, his popularity and need at home are even greater. I applaud his wisdom in using Godly discernment to strive for the 'Best Dad' award from four sons and a nephew vs. the award for 'Best Gospel Singer."

We wish Joel and his family all that Heaven has to offer as we all move forward in seeking what God has for us in the days ahead."

"I have been abundantly blessed to be a part of The Mark Trammell Quartet for the last two years and to have made so many friends across the country," says Joel. "Our fans are the greatest people in the world! While I LOVE singing Gospel music, I also love being an active part of the lives of my boys. As they grow older, there is more opportunity for them to be involved in sports and other activities outside the home and it has become impossible for my wife, Melissa, to be at five different places at one time.

"I'm not saying that I won't ever sing again. I just feel after much prayer and consideration that this is the right decision for this time in our lives. Also, I would like to thank Mark Trammell, Pat Barker, Dustin Sweatman, and Stan Olson for their desire to help me grow as both a Gospel singer AND a father. Bloodline Member Barb Tweedie Promoted To Heaven

It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye for now to one of our charter MTQ Bloodline members. Barb Tweedie, her husband Ed, and dear MTQ friend Larry Hutto, came all the way from Texas to our homecoming event a number of years ago. God allowed Barb to see the reality and desire of this ministry to take His music and His word to places that couldn't afford to underwrite such special events. Over the last few years, Barb and Ed have played key roles in sending this ministry to at least 8 rural churches to have concerts that otherwise would have never happened. They were also responsible for helping underwrite our first Small Church Leadership Conference this last January in Texas. Oddly enough, they did all of this and were unaware that they were one of the key reasons MTQ was able to have such ministry outreach ability. Barb is one of only three people who regularly reminded us that there is someone who believes in our ministry and that lives WILL be changed because of our collective efforts to present Christ! The One that she loved and so willingly helped us to serve, stepped thru the bonds of time and space today at 8:20 AM and escorted her to her new home in Heaven.

Barb, we will miss you for now. But we will meet you in the morning, over there.

Yesterday marked 1 year and 1 month since we became a quartet and this stamp of approval not only for the men in their individual positions, but also the quartet making the top 10 at the end of their first year is simply overwhelming!

URGENT PRAYER NEEDED

Dear Ones,

I just received word that one of our most faithful bloodline members is having a real fight with cancer. WE KNOW who the great physician is and are committed to rest only on HIS final prognosis. I ask that you join me in praying for God to touch Barb Tweedie. She and her husband Ed are a part of the backbone of our ministry. We're trusting God on their behalf in these days of trying times.

Also, please pray for some of my favorite kids, the Taylors. Jonathan, Leslie, and Suzanne were in Tokyo, Japan last week when the Earthquake/Tsunami devastation took place. A two hour tour bus ride back to Tokyo turned into a fourteen hour ordeal. They were on MT Fuji when the earthquake took place.

Suzanne shared with me that ONLY by God's grace they were able to make it out. They are all three convinced that while experiencing the almost hourly aftershocks in what had turned into a ghost town, God sent an angel of mercy out of no where to navigate them thru the streets and remaining open subway trains as they made their way toward the new airport that had literally opened THAT DAY. They secured three seats which came available on the only flight out before the mandatory post trauma shutdowns took place. They are safe at home with their family but are having post traumatic conditions which normally do take place after being involved in such an event. Help me pray that God will calm their nerves and allow them to rest.

Prayer still changes things and people too!

Marching Toward Spring!

The 37th annual Singing At Sea is now history and my what a wonderful trip it was. It was also the largest crowd MTQ has ever hosted so on behalf of our families we say thank you! Next year is already booking fast so if you want to be a part of the 2012 Singing At Sea don't delay in sending your deposit! This is the only cruise that sells out 7 to 8 months before the sailing date!

We are currently finishing up post production on our first quartet video! I think you will really enjoy this evening of music and ministry that was recorded the same night as the Greater Vision 20th Anniversary video. Both should be available around May 1st.

Also, we have been in the studio for the last few weeks and are just about to wrap up a project with some of MY favorite songs. That's right. I decided that once in my life I would record a project that has some of my favorite songs. Songs that I have been a part of down thru the years. Now that we're a quartet its easier for me to pull this off! We will keep you posted on the progress of this new project!

STARTING THE YEAR OFF RIGHT!

If you like singing and preaching that stirs the soul, makes you smile, and honors Christ, then you would have had a blessed time with MTQ the last few days! We have been overwhelmed by our annual "January Texas Tour" which always gets us off to a great start in the new year. Temple, TX with our friend Tony Watson and his family was wonderful as usual. Temple loved our friends the Whisnants! Then we went to Huntsville, TX for the first day of a revival with our dear friend Dr. Bob Pittman. Bro. Robert Nichols and his church family are always a treat to be with.

January 10th found us at MT Outreach Ministry's first Small Church Leadership Conference. It was our prayer and objective to keep just one man from walking away from the call of God. We feel that God more than honored our prayer that night! Thanks to Pastor Keith Clifton and Potosi Baptist Church for helping host our first conference!

Weatherford, TX was a great concert with some new friends. No Other Way Quartet. As well as Robert Townzen and his family. We look forward to going back there next year! Great fellowship and a wonderful crowd to sing to!

Conroe, TX has become our second home! The Bible Conference at Mims Baptist Church is as close to heaven as one can get. I LOVE singing with their choir!! I think its one of the very best in America! They sing with such conviction and annointing! MTQ and our friends the Whisnants are always special guests for the conference. Couple great singing with the greatest preaching in the land and you can't go wrong! Dr. David Allen, Dr. Bob Pittman, Dr. Adam Dooley, and Dr. Herb Revis. WOW is all i can say. What great preaching!!!! What a joy to see lives changed before your very eyes! Hallelujah, What A Savior!

Tonight we are with my long time friend Dr. David Holder at First Baptist in Sulphur, LA. and then we are off for a few days!!

First let me say "Merry Christmas" to everyone from MTQ. We are officially off for just over two weeks and what a wonderful year we have had! My dear friend Gerald Wolfe extended an invitation to us to shoot our first quartet video while we are in Morristown, TN on December 30 helping celebrate 20 years of God's faithfulness to the ministry of Greater Vision. We are SO excited!!! It will truly be an evening you won't want to miss as the entire evening which includes moments with Gerald, Chris, and myself, will soon be available on DVD and YOU could be a part of that night! As JD Sumner used to say "I Can't Wait!"

Wow,

Where do I begin! So much is going on in the ministry of MTQ. Lets start with the most successful homecoming event we have ever had! July 23, 24, and 25 were great day! The highest attendance we've ever seen for our event! The first night was the Greenes and MTQ and my what a wonderful job the Greenes did!! Little did I know that when I wrote this article our long time friend Tony Greene would have already slipped away into the arms of Jesus. He is sorely missed.

The annual Albert E. Brumley sing in Lebanon, MO was a huge success as well as the Southern Gospel Picnic at Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO.

National Quartet Convention was also a GREAT week for MTQ. We saw many of our old friends and I believe we made some new relationships that will last through eternity. It's kind of like going to a family reunion for me. In August, I celebrated 36 years since I walked on my first stage with a professional quartet. Speaking of quartets, you have spoken loud and clear to my heart that we made the right decision in hiring Pat Barker. He truly is a blessing to our lives! Oh, by the way, in case you don't know. Pat and Kesha are expecting their third child some time in May of next year! Congratulations to the happy couple.

Our first major release as a quartet is out and by all indications will be the best selling CD that we have ever made! Lari Goss was the producer/arranger for this new project and we are SO excited about "Testimony." You can order yours today!

We received confirmation in September that we will be going on a second cruise in 2011. We are VERY excited to be included in the IN TOUCH ALASKA cruise with Dr Charles Stanley as our host. He along with Dr. Dennis Swanburg, Geraldine and Ricky, Greater Vision, The Specks, Babbie Mason and others will be on board for the week ministering to those who will attend. We just finished our fall revival for this year in Vilas, NC with our friends from Willow Valley Baptist Church. Pastor Ray Greene is one of the sweetest, most Godly men I have ever known. The quartet sang with me on sunday and then went home to be with family while I stayed behind to preach the remainder of the meeting. We were blessed to see many decisions during those days and are thankful to God for his presence in each service!

Our annual visit to Dollywood's Southern Gospel Celebration was this week and we had two record breaking days with fans from all across the country! What a tremendous blessing it was to have such crowds at our performances. You truly honored us by your attendance! Thank you.

As I write this update to you we are headed to the home of Don and Jackie Rupert to have lunch. I CANT WAIT!!! Miss Jackie is a great cook! We sing in Bushnell, FL tonight and then its on to Bill Baileys annual gospel event in Waldo, FL tomorrow night.

Please be in prayer for us as we are trying to be faithful in the work God has set before us. Its a wonderful time in the life of this ministry as God takes us through another phase of growth. There are always pains with growth but God continues to prove himself faithful!

News update from Mark Trammell Quartet

Hello again!

The title of this update should be "be careful what you pray for, you just might get it." Wow, we have been busy the last few months. What an exciting time in the life of this ministry. February started out by changing the trio to a quartet. Then the quartet went on the singing at sea christian cruise to the Bahamas. (WHAT A TRIP!) March took us on our first trip to western Canada (a total of 6,300 miles) and we have never been treated more wonderful any where in the world.

April was also an eventful month as we were honored to sing for Abraham productions annual Singing In the Sun in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (i love that place) before flying to California to sing for the first time at the Great Western Fan Festival in their new location of Visalia, California. Again we were received as if we were family! It was a truly humbling experience as I haven't seen many of those folks since my days with the Cathedral Quartet. In May we were invited to fly to Glorieta, New Mexico and be a part of the seniors conference hosted by our friend Evangelist Tim Williams and our friends at Lifeway. So as you can tell, life hasn't been boring on the MTQ bus!

Presently we are working on the quartets second recording and I personally am thrilled to be working once again with my long time friend and former Cathedral producer Lari Goss. In my first meeting with Lari, I asked him to go on a journey with me back in time. Somewhere around the mid 1980's when he and I were a part of quartet music that still sounded like a gospel quartet but had a little spice and flair to it at the same time.....He said "I would love to go back to that place with you," graciously smiled and slapped his knee and then said "hang on, here we go.." I asked God for only two things in this recording. First that it have the anointing of the holy spirit. Second, that it be both simple and have a certain measure of class musically. It's my opinion that God outdid himself when honoring my prayer requests. I CAN'T WAIT for you to hear it!!

As many of you know, our homecoming is just around the corner. July 23 thru 25 at Hill Crest Baptist Church in Anniston, Alabama. Check the add on our site and come join us along with the Greenes, and the Booth Brothers for what we hope to be an inspiring weekend.

Lastly, we are getting close to a sell out for the 37th annual Singing At Sea which sails from Jacksonville, Fl on Feb. 14, 2011. Walter Bohannon promoted to Glory

It is with a broken heart that we announce the passing of our driver, Walter Bohannon. He and his wife Betty were on the way to pick up the bus to take it for maintenance work when they stopped to put fuel in their car. Betty states "We were waiting in line to get fuel. Walter had put the car in park and I heard him take a funny sounding breath. When I looked toward him, his head was laid back on the head rest and I knew he was gone."

Walter and Betty had a quartet of their own for many years in the Gadsden, Alabama area. Walter was the bass singer. He LOVED this music as much as anyone could.

The quartet arrived home at 4:00 am this morning from Arkansas and Walter was his normal jovial self. It just reminds all of us that no man knows when his time here is over and that we should always be ready to meet God. Walter was a milk man for 41 years before retiring to a "simpler life" of driving the bus. But driving the bus was the least of his attributes. He was a great mentor to the young men around him as well as a wonderful friend to literally thousands of fans across the world.

Walters favorite song of recent years was on the new quartet recording. Its ironic that the first verse says "Some day this stammering tongue will falter no more. And a grander sweeter song I shall sing. For I'll join the ransomed choir on heavens bright shore, forever to praise the King. God must have needed a bass singing, bus driving milk man in heaven today. Walter will be greatly missed..........as Mark says "They just don't make Men of that caliber anymore"

Concert Cancellations

Our very first concert as a quartet, in Columbus GA, has been canceled due to weather. This singing will be rescheduled at a later date. Also, due to the inclement weather this week, our concerts on Saturday night (in Oxford AR) and Sunday night (in Halls TN) have been canceled. Please check our web site to see when they have been rescheduled.

George Younce said it best. Mark Trammell is a "quartet man" period. And after two years of soul searching and watching the craft of the traditional gospel quartet become scarce, Mark has decided to move from trio status to realizing his life long dream of having his own traditional style all male gospel quartet.

"This is not a decision that was made flippantly" Mark states, and all I'm really doing is simply returning to my roots. I was trained by some of the greatest men to ever take a quartet to the stage and I'm very excited about MTQ endeavoring to raise the bar when it comes our music and being able to minister to, as well as entertain our friends and fans."

Mark has always been about singing and not gimmicks. He reminds us that Glen Payne and George Younce taught him that at the end of the day if you want to be successful in stirring the hearts of the people, you MUST eventually sing TO their hearts, and not just their heads.

Mark admits that there was a motive behind his decision to announce the change before knowing who the bass singer was going to be. While he openly states that this was not necessarily a religious awakening, he does want the right man for the position. In making the announcement the way he did, the prospects came to him, instead of him going on a search to find the right man.

The Mark Trammell Quartet is proud to announce the arrival of Pat Barker to Gadsden, Alabama and we are looking forward to great days ahead.

Changes On The Horizon For The Mark Trammell Trio

Gadsden, AL - One of Southern Gospel's Top Five trios will be making some major changes in early 2010. Mark Trammell announced today that after two years of encouragement from both fans and industry friends, the Mark Trammell Trio will change its name to the Mark Trammell Quartet in the very near future.

"For over seven years our trio has enjoyed great success as a new group that God has allowed to start from literally nothing to what it is today," says Mark. "I guess George Younce was right: I am, and always have been, a quartet man at heart. We are excited about the days ahead and being able to deliver our brand of traditional four part harmony to those who have been such a great encouragement."

Who will be the bass singer for the Mark Trammell Quartet? The announcement is just a few weeks away!

Congratulations Eric Phillips on your graduation from the 148th basic session of NEALEA!!

Eric's training lasted from August 16 through November 5, 2009 (480 hours). There were 36 graduates and Eric was 9th in his class with a 92.136 average.

Eric received the most prestigious Director's Award. It reads: "This certificate is presented to Eric D. Phillips for displaying a high potential of leadership and achievement, a keen interest in all aspects of law enforcement and academy operations, and his efforts and dedication in maintaining rapport, morale, and camaraderie among fellow class member of the 148th basic session."

This award is voted on by the faculty, staff and all the other class members. Chief Crouch, Gadsden Police Department, attended the ceremony. He told Eric that in his 8 years as Chief only 2 other Gadsden police officers had received this award.

Announcement of New Tenor

We are excited to announce that our new tenor is twenty nine year old Joel Wood from Phenix City, AL. Joel formerly sang with the Daybreak Quartet from the Atlanta, Ga area. We welcome Joel, his wife Melissa and their four boys....yes FOUR boys. Tyler, 10. Brayden, 7. Jaxon, 3, and Cameron, 9 months. What a joy to have this wonderful addition to the Mark Trammell Trio . Please join us as we welcome Joel and his beautiful family! Joel's first official date will be July 10 in Sikes, La. We believe that this is God's man for the next chapter in the ministry of the Mark Trammell Trio.

Update from Eric Phillips

Hello friends,

I just wanted to drop a line and tell each of you what I'll be doing after I leave the Mark Trammell Trio. I have been hired by the city of Gadsden, and will be working at the Gadsden Police Department! I will begin in-house training at the Gadsden Police Department on July 10th. While there, I will be preparing to attend Police Academy, which will start on August 16th, 2009, and last for twelve weeks. After I graduate from the Police Academy, I will then have seventeen weeks of field training. During this extended preparation time, I will be riding with experienced officers and applying the skills learned during my time in the academy to practical situations on the streets.

I began singing eight years ago, and have met many wonderful people during the year I sang in North Carolina, and in the seven years I've traveled with the Mark Trammell Trio. Thank you for the encouragement that you all have given to my family and me along the way. Please keep us in your prayers!

Eric Phillips announces plans to return to Law Enforcement

It is with bittersweet emotion that we announce the soon departure of our award winning tenor Eric Phillips. Eric has served this ministry with integrity and honor since our very beginning seven years ago. Bitter, because I view him as a second son and cherish the bond and relationship God has allow us to have for these years. Sweet, because we firmly believe that God has a plan for all of us as we move forward to the next phase of our lives.

Eric has been praying with careful consideration about this move for a number of months and feels confident that his return to Law Enforcement is what is best for he and his family. Please join us in praying for God's perfect will for both Eric and this ministry. His departure will take place sometime mid to late summer depending on our finding a suitable replacement and his reinstatement to active duty as a police officer. As Eric stated to me, "I have two passions. One is singing, and the other is Law Enforcement. I have enjoyed my days with MTT and have enjoyed the love of gospel music fans around the world. But I am convinced this is the right timing for this change."

Anyone interested in auditioning for the tenor position should send a brief resume along with a sample tape or CD to Mark Trammell Trio/audition/PO Box 588/Gadsden, AL/35902. We will in turn listen and then contact those we feel to be the individuals most likely to fit our style, etc. Auditions will begin just after fathers day as the group will be on an eight day tour and then vacation immediately following.

Mark In Revival in South Carolina

Last night kicked off our spring meeting here in beautiful Johnston, SC at Phillipi Baptist Church. The meeting starts at 7:30 PM each evening thru Wednesday. Please pray for us during these meetings. God moved in a wonderful way last night and we anticipate more of the same. Also, I've been invited by one of the church members to attend tomorrows practice round of the Masters golf tournament in nearby Augusta, Ga. NO im not excited at all!!! I can't help but be reminded of Psalms 37:4. Most of you know how much I love golf and one of the life long desires of my heart is to go to the Masters. God willing, tomorrow morning one of those desires will be fullfilled. Don't be afraid to ask God for those things you dream of, He just might answer your prayer!

4th Annual Mark Trammell Trio Homecoming!

We are excited about the plans for our 4th Annual Mark Trammell Trio Homecoming. This is going to be an wonderful time of music and fellowship.

Our Homecoming will be held on July 24 - 26, 2009 at the Hillcrest Baptist Church.

On Friday, July 24th our special guests will be The Browns and The Southmen at 7:00 PM.
On Saturday, July 25th our special guests will be Greater Vision at 7:00 PM.
On Sunday, July 26th we will be part of the morning service at Hillcrest Baptist Church at 10:00 AM.

This year will be having our third annual golf tournament which will be held on Saturday, July 25th at 8:30 AM.

Spring is almost here!

Dear ones,

Its been too long since my last update so I'm gonna try to fill you in. We started our year off as usual in Conroe, Tx at the annual bible conference held at Mims Baptist Church. We were honored along with our dear friends the Whisnants, to be the musical guests for the conference. One of the joys of my life is to sing with the massive choir there at Mims. Wow they can really sing! Our thanks to Gene and Kevin Kendrick for allowing us to be a part of that great conference.

February of course is cruise month and did we ever cruise! The largest gospel cruise in the water today is the Singing at Sea. The dates are posted on our website for next years cruise. The cruise sold out early last year so don't wait too long to get a brochure from our office. For those who don't know, you our fans and friends are the reason we get to go on this trip. If you sign up with us, you enable us to take our families as well. For that, we are very grateful!

I had vein surgery on my left leg the week after the cruise so I have been hobbling around on a cane since then. Nick took me to Wal-mart for one of my first outings and I didn't know how much fun riding one of those scooters could be! LOL! I don't think Nick will be so eager to "get Dad out of the house" next time. HE HE HE! I think that just about catches us up for now. Oh, btw, we just got word that our song "Loving the Lamb" has gone to no. 7 in the national chart for the month of May! Thank you so much for your response to this wonderful Kyla Rowland song. This is our highest position to date on radio. To God Be The Glory! We love you in Jesus and will see you on the road somewhere!

As I sit here listening to Paul Heil's "Gospel Christmas" program on XM radio i'm reminded of those who make our year very special. Its you! This has been a very interesting year for all of us but one thing has been and IS our constant. His name is Jesus. Celebrate with us His entrance to this world. He did truly change the course of history. If you feel alone this Christmas, let me hasten to report to you that we are NEVER alone because of the wonderful gift that God sent to us thousands of years ago. Great week for Mark Trammell Trio

Last week so many of you helped pray for me and for the revival in Texas. I have the joy of reporting that it was a great meeting. More than 40 people walked the aisle during the four days we were there and two of the decisions were salvation decisions! Pastor Charles Roberts, Ron Meadows and all the wonderful folks there at Denman Ave. Baptist Church were so kind and supported the meeting by being there every night. It was truly a blessing. We believe that God is not finished with the work started during that meeting.

After the meeting I flew from Texas to meet the guys in Sioux Falls, SD where the Browns have shouldered the task of carrying on the tradition of a fall weekend event in that great city. The event was the brainchild of the infamous "Mr. Ed" who passed away earlier this year, and is very much missed by our industry. The Browns did an awesome job in promoting and the folks there were lots of fun to sing to! Speaking of the Browns, as most of you know, in less than three weeks the oldest daughter of the Browns, Jessica; will become Mrs. Jessica Trammell!!! She and Nick will be married on Dec. 6! She is Sooooo happy to be getting me for a father-in-law! Of course, anyone that knows me can identify with her feeling of Joy!
